Montauk + Steamed Clams in White Wine

Hello all! It has been a while since I last updated my blog. Although I had good reasons for my absence, I missed you and I’m really happy to be back. No, you are not getting rid of me that easy! Summer has been great to me, it came with new friends, adventures and lots of new places to enjoy a good meal. I’m talking about Montauk specifically where I’ve been spending most of my weekends.

Exploring Montauk has been a lot of fun with such a cool and relaxing atmosphere, the beach, nature and plenty of good restaurants. Among other things, Montauk is known for fishing so getting a good piece of fish from the local market or ordering from a local restaurant is a must!

I gathered a few photos to show you some of the restaurants I visited and loved. Also, I’m sharing a simple recipe for steamed clams in white wine with garlic bread. This classic recipe is perfect for a Summer evening with friends and it won’t take too much of your time so it is perfect for an appetizer or make it as a main dish by serving it with pasta, you decide. Clams in wine sauce

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

1 small shallot, thinly sliced

2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

a pinch of red pepper flakes, optional

1 cup of dry white wine

1/2 cup water

salt and pepper to taste

2 dozen fresh clams, cleaned well

1/4 cup chopped parsley

Heat a pan over medium heat and add the olive oil and butter. Add the shallot and garlic and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until soft but be careful not to burn the garlic! Add red pepper flakes if using, white wine, water, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil then add the clams, cover the pan and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until the clams open. Sprinkle parsley and serve immediately with garlic bread.
